The Colorado Independent: You’ve got to fight, for your right to die in the woods

I climbed Quandary Peak this weekend. I can't count how may people I saw wearing shorts, trail runners, and carrying only a water bottle.

Oddly, at the summit, I met a gentleman who is a Sherpa on Mt. Everest, here in CO for a visit. He and I were dressed similarly (long pants, long sleeves, hat, proper hiking boots, pack with basic essentials, etc.). Granted, Quandary is not an exceptionally difficult fourteener and the route is fairly well marked, but the laws of nature still apply.

I absolutely encourage people to get out and enjoy the wilderness and back country. But they should also do it sensibly and responsibly.

Something about these folks from sea level coming up and and trying to climb a 14'er a day after they get here. I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but that really peeves me to no end.
