Hum, let me ask these questions 1. How does that comport with the fact that K. Salazar and DeGette host an annual fundraiser for major DC lobbyists at Vail? The lobbyists and electeds come together for like 3 or 4 days of skiing, dining and drinking. The members staff show up and it is one massive party. They take up like 25% of 3 different hotels?

2. So what is that Vail Chamber going to do on Right to Work, oppose it?

thank you for your comment, Kaye I'm sure this hasn't been a very pleasant last couple of days for you fielding calls from angry local business people and Front Range residents.

I can certainly understand your reasons for wanting to distance yourself from the "riff-raff" comment. No doubt it's generated quite a bit of controversy -- as have other rather colorful statements that you have made in the press about the ski industry's 2003 outreach to Front Range residents, local business concerns and real estate development issues in Vail.

However, we unequivocally stand by the accuracy and representation of your statements in our reporting.

Gross Inaccuracies Last Wednesday afternoon I read an article on a web site that was highly provocative, yet extremely disappointing by its representation. What I tried to convey to the reporter was the discussion that has been shared in the community about the Epic Pass and concerns about parking issues. Unfortunately, many of the attributions to me are grossly inaccurate.

At no time did I speak in a disparaging way about our guests. In fact as a former business owner and a member of the local business organization, I have long supported the Front Range skier.

For many years our Chamber produced a "Vail Loves You" coupon book, which was distributed to all Front Range skiers. It included discounts from a wide variety of businesses intended to provide extra value to the visiting pass holders.

Additionally, we pioneered Free Wednesday parking that was available for many years as an incentive to midweek visits from those same pass holders. I have long supported programs that were targeted at fostering a positive relationship with the Front Range skier.

While I am disappointed by the approach taken in the article, please know that I am committed to working with all involved to make the Epic Pass a benefit for our guests and our community.

Don't forget where you stand The Vail ski resort operates in federal lands. I-70 is a federal high way. US taxes payed for the foundation of Vail. Do not forget it! These type of comments will prompt a serious backlash of enraged Coloradans writing to legislators so next time you need big bucks from taxes to promote the area, you will find the doors closet. As a front range skier and head of a Coloradan family I find extremely offensive the disrespect you show to the people that made Colorado a home, payed taxes here and contribute to the economy of the state that indirectly supports your lifestyle.

Let me guess I am guessing Kaye Ferry lives in Vail because her daddy owned property there. I am also guessing she is from out of state. To us natives, flatlanders who can't ski are the real Riff Raff. Ski instructor or not, I am sure she gapes like a true midwesterner.

Keith Gargus I worked construction years ago in Vail. It was clear that the builders/hotel staff were considered riff-raff even back then. Day trippers were undeard of.
Vail is a sterile pretend village that markets to GOP types from the flatlands of mid-America.

If this new ticket changes that, then it is a step in the right direction.
