Catholic pastors directed to distribute anti-health reform materials at mass
I phoned and left messages with all three County Commissioners, none returned my calls. And contrary to what Jim Little says, I've sent him two letters. One was published.
Polygamy is against the law, and while Texas botched the investigation, I believe enough evidence has been found to show women are essentially treated as brood mares, and the kids have no real idea who their real fathers are.
Westcliffe is indeed a "live and let live" kind of town. It's part of the enormous charm of the community.
But we're crossing into dangerous territory.
May I ask how you found out about compound-building by the FLDS group? Is this a hot topic of conversation in Westcliffe that is being ignored by elected officials (save the sheriff) or is it not well-known by residents?
I called the editor of the Westcliffe Paper and he said it was the first time he'd heard about it.
KRDO in Colorado Springs has also reported on it. A few other news outlets (one national)are hard at work digging for information as well.
The locals I've talked to are "hesitant" to discuss anything related to the group, quickly changing the subject. I think elected officials are indeed concerned and believe that the Sheriff is doing all he can.
But this group has enormous power and resources, they're purchasing property in areas where they'll raise little attention. Millions of dollars worth, all cash. And when they do, up go the walls, fences or even semi-trailers.
Gov. Perry of Texas is pretty clear he wants them out of his state. Obviously they'll need to move elsewhere.
How sad that they brainwash the women and girls into thinking the only way they can get to heaven is to "marry" a dirty old man who already has several wives. The men in this sect are the personification of evil.
