The Colorado Independent: Pastor Ted Fired

  • Zappatero · 3 years ago
Just for the record Ross and bros. are great singers.

I love them, in a Jesus/non-you-know-what kind of way for that.

  • Wendy Norris · 3 years ago
let the aspersions begin What will be truly fascinating to observe is how the religious right react to this news?

Will there be a call for unity or will they throw him to the wolves?

Will the gay community be further vilified for turning Pastor Ted from the Lord or will this turn of events further erode the tolerance for hypocritical anti-gay rhetoric by parishioners?

Will Pastor Ted join HRC or the Stonewall Dems?

They have Overseers? How do the black-folk in the church feel about that?
  • Sean Duffy Rocks · 3 years ago
I is still going to lose Sean Duffy got a huge salary from Timmy Gill.

Sean was given carte blanche to hire his Republican consultant buddies and pay them a lot more than therir normal rate.

Duffy came up with a commercial depicting support from some unseen rich guy with pictures of a wealthy neighborhood. Perhaps the worst commercial this whole cycle.

Sean Duffy took Tim Gill's money, squandered every last dime of it and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

Oh and to make matters worse Sean regales his right wing pals with anti-Gay jokes.

    Way to go Tim.

Great idea to hire a right-winger to run your campaign.

Haggard or no Haggard I is going down and Sean is going to the bank.

Bottom Line In conclusion we see a direct threat to our capitol bottom line and must act immediately to preserve our coffers. From this juncture foward you are not allowed to mention his name or assist him in any way or you wil be excamunicated.

At least the methamphetamine part was ok... So buying illegal drugs (repeatedly) is not a sin, but OMG faggotry! 'Art' from Kansas (he should have said San Francisco, ha) reminds me of that character in the movie 'American Beauty', the tough guy who hated and disparaged homosexuals in public, while having gay fantasies in private. When I saw the movie I thought it was an implausible piece of fiction; little did I know this seems to be a defining characteristic of the GOP psyche: angry, resentful, repressed, hateful--mostly of themselves, it seems.
  • monofonik · 3 years ago
I guess Meth's fine. They don't mention crystal meth anywhere in the letter, so I guess they're not as mad about him buying and possibly using meth as they are him getting a little man love from a gay hooker.

Does ANYONE believe he bought meth but decided it was wrong?

  • waterflaws · 3 years ago
method actor Does this mean he was really a meth-odist?

Anti-gay gays really piss me off and are a huge threat to openly gay people.  I'm going to go protest at his church and/or at the 'overseeing' Victory Church in Westminster.

  • Jaycubed · 3 years ago
re. They Have Overseers? They have Overseers?

How do the black-folk in the church feel about that?

Not many black-folk in his church, or its neighborhood, at least as evidenced by the videos I've seen of their events.

Lay off a little! At first I chortled over this story too, but as I have read the coverage and remembered other things I had read about Ted Haggard, I think this is a loss for progressives.  This was a guy who tried to get "Evangelicals" to see that God cares about more than people's sex lives.  He was very restrained on the issues here in Colorado (AM 23 and Prop I).  He had said positive things about secular government extending rights of same sex couples, and supported the USSCt decision overturning Texas' criminal sodomy law.  He also tried to divert some the fervor of his flock to environmental stewardship.  What I now see is a tormented human being who really believed that homosexuality was a sin, and fought recognizing his own sexual orientation.  Imagine what hell that is for someone who really believes that shit!  I say, give the poor bastard a break, and if you're into that, say a little prayer for him

Let he that is without sin - Let he that is without sin - snort the first rock

what a crazy world. I suppose his demon-nomination is METH-O-Dist.....

I would just love to have sorrid pictures of the events.

Beware of wolves that come to you in sheeps clothing, not sparing the flock. Let me see, I bought Meth and never used it. I had a gay massage me, but no sex. Maybe he is using Bill Clintons definition of sex....so this is true...?

This is so funny it turns my stomach.

Christian Hypocrites Christians have written ...."The truth is, I am Ted Haggard, we are all Ted Haggard, and Ted Haggard is all of us. And may God have mercy me, on Ted and on all of us." What on earth are you talking about?? I sure as HELL aint Ted Haggard. I don't snort lines of METH of BOY WHORE cock while leading a huge flock of sheepish christians in a mega church who's policies seek to BAN GAY MARRIGE!! He is a hypocritical scumbag. Look at his wife and kids, nice one CLOSET CASE! Every ounce of suffering this twisted FAGGOT gets is deserved as he has warped the brains of so many young with his assinine "theology". You xtians crack me up...on the attack on others who don't believe, but when one of your own is shown to be a CRACK WHORE, it's all forgiveness time. Pathetic. Hypocrites.

You Have One Option Left, Pastor Haggard You've dishonored your church, your family and your congregation.

A real man would understand that he has destroyed the faith and trust of everything that matters in this world and should leave it as soon as possible to avoid hurting those he purports to love any more.

Please, if you have any love left in your twisted heart, blow your brains out on public television as soon as possible.

Your wife and children face an entire lifetime of nightmarish association with you.

A quick noble pull of the trigger would save them all from the curse of living in the shadow of your crimes.

Do it now and same them from a life of endless shame.

Die, you gravy sucking pig. Die.

Hey Bob I think calling for him to kill himself is crossing the line. He's been making big mistakes and now he is paying for them. Do you really think his children are better off with him dead? Don't be a jackass.
  • Bob · 3 years ago
It would only be an act of Love Evilbeard,

Yes, it is the only thing he can do that can save his kids from being introduced everywhere as the progeny of a meth-freak sodomite. Once he gets rid of himself, they can change their names and move to a small town in the Dakotas and maybe, just maybe, live like human beings.

    Bob

  • ChimpMaster · 3 years ago
    ChimpNchief Hey Bob,

I say ease up too.  What this man Haggard really needs to do is embrace his sexuality and admit he's gay and live with it.  Except this time he needs to stand up for who he is.  The meth thing is bad and wrong but being gay is a fact of life that he'll never change. Therefore, if he accepts it everyone else will too.

Fuck the damn church! What made him do what he did is believing all that stupid shit in the first place about sex and sin and God.  That has driven many people over the edge. Maybe the rest of his family will wake up and think for themselves.  Religion is a load of horse shit.  I think Haggard has done his family a favor by proving it.  If he can quit living a lie maybe the rest of the congregation will too.

  • A Friend · 3 years ago
The Family Needs to be Released from the Nightmare ChimpNchief,

His boys will have to show up at school and listen to hundreds of their peers laugh at them, heckle them, blow kisses at them, mock them by offering their asses to them, and ask for blow-jobs all day long and watch their teachers look away from them in pity and revulsion. The girls, if he has any, will just have to listen to hundreds of their peers jeer at them and ask them how it feels to have to keep their dates away from dad, the cocksucker.

His wife and kids' lives are over as long as they are associated with him.

He needs to vanish so the kids and wife can disappear into the crowd.

    Bob

  • ChimpNchief · 3 years ago
It's Done. Let it be. Haggard is what he is.  Religion made it worse.  Gay is not the problem. Religion is the problem.  Believing in fairy tales and demons causes people to do bad things.  There is nothing worse than a repressed homosexual.  Religion is repression.

His family will survive and be better for the experience.  Ted will have to accept who he is finally and quit living a lie.  End of story.

Hopefully the kids will learn fo face reality.  You can't pray away your problems.

  • Thebuz · 3 years ago
Private Matter Folks, as the GOP reminds us, this is a PRIVATE matter.  GOP drug/sex/pedo/adultery matters are private.  Dem indiscretions are the only thing that should be reported publicly and prosecuted in front of the country.
  • Jeremiad · 3 years ago
Hypocrisy ad nauseum Haggard, Dobson, and the religious right wing zealots have made gay marriage a ballot issue in many states with the fear mongering that "gay marriage" threatens heterosexual marriages.

The fear they elicit is as false as the TSA CODE ORANGE warnings at the airport!!!  Seems the only heterosexual marriage threatened  is that of Mrs Haggard.  This data point is a sad anomaly as is the hypocrisy of "Pastor Ted" and the entire religious right who love to cast stones.

Contrast the "understanding" reaction of these religious zealots towards the drug enhanced homosexual encounters of Pastor Ted with the "hellfire and brimstone" reaction to Clinton's dalliance.  Hypocrisy is on every level of this story.  Should one laugh, or cry?

    > Lay off a little! > Lay off a little!

You gotta be kidding. Ted profits from speading a mindless form of spirtuality, encouraging obedience over critical thought, and for spreading worldviews that are unscientific and at times downright hateful. I hope he burns in hell.

  • Jeremiad · 3 years ago
EXCUSE ME!!!! BUSH in Greely:  ?Marilyn Musgrave understands the importance of defending traditional values,? Mr. Bush said. ?She has worked to prevent the institution of marriage from being redefined by activist judges. She understands your values.?  NYTimes

EXCUSE ME!!!!  Seems like Ted Haggard, and the evangelical/GOP cult of hypocrisy, not activist judges, are the ones redefining marriage!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Did the "meth" make it better,  "PastorTed"?)

We are the OVERSEERS! "Overseers".  What a downright scary notion, right out of the middle ages and the crusaders.  Nonsense that only religion can provide.
  • DaXue · 3 years ago
re: Marilyn Musgrave You have to know that name before going further ... which won't take a lot of effort. Musgrave is the leader of the North Dakota "Jesus Camp", which IMO amounts to the Christian equivalent of a 'terrorist' training camp. She takes children as young as five years old !!! and convinces them that their lives are down the sh*t hole and that Jesus will save them from their direction-less lives.

    http://www.jesuscampthemovie.com/

She's another item on my list of hundreds of reasons to never indoctrinate what children I may have into any religion.

Fighting His Demons... It's called fighting "your" demons in others.  The thing you fear the most is usually inside yourself.  The US, for example, is living in a fantasy fighting the terrorist that it is.  The more it fights the more it becomes what is fighting.  God help us all if we don't start waking up soon.

Hypocracy In the bible women are abused, sold into slavery, beaten, and oppressed.  god is vindictive, synical, racist, angry, and false.  he permits adultery (salomon and his harem), is responsible for genocides (the word is smite, not kill or murder), kills innocents (the first born children of the egyptians, as if this children did not have right to life!)

what an omnipotent being!  shows all the worst qualities of an uncivil, and uncivilized man.

In view of this fiction, all those who "believe" are unable to see reality.  They are not homosapiens,  they homocredulus.

Think!, don't just blindly believe you fools.

It's Time Pastor Ted - Don't Fear the Reaper! Your family is doomed to a lifetime of being associated with a drug freak, self-hating sodomite and hypocrite!

You are doomed to living with them, watching them go through their destroyed twisted lives being tormented around the clock by hateful people because of you, all the while learning to hate you more every day!

You are doomed to being righteously spat upon by everyone everywhere for the rest of your natural life!

Relieve you innocent family of this endless nightmare!

    Don't fear the reaper!

Squeeze the trigger slowly and you'll never know when it will fire!

repent It is settled.  Haggard is a wicked hypocrite.  I agree with your anger.  And I share disappointment with many.

But a question.  Does that prove Jesus wrong?  You are foolish to think so.  As has been true countless times, those who say they follow Him prove themselves unlike Him.  This is not the first time.  It won't be the last.

But do you think that because Haggard is being punished that you will escape the justice of God?  You speak of God as though He is a "skull-fucking" being.  Every word we speak we will be held to against an inpenetrable standard.  God will not forget what you say or write.  Nor will He forget what I say and do, or what Ted Haggard has done.

And we should all be damned.  I know I deserve it.  If you don't see why you do, you need to open your eyes.

There is hope if you need it.  Even Ted Haggard can have it.  God will judge all men after we die.  Will you be saved from the punishment of an unbending God?

There is only one Way.  Read the Bible and find out what Christianity really is.  We follow the one and only Jesus.  He is incomparable.  And He doesn't look like a religionist.

Just because Ted Haggard's life appears to be on sinking sand, doesn't mean yours is not.  Repent.  Now.  While there is time, do not make your heart any harder than it is.

Be angry at religion but don't harden your heart to the Good News that Jesus brought. Good news for Haggard, if he turns from his horrid hypocrisy. Good news for you all if you turn from yours. Why don't you really check out what he saud rahter than what the religious say.

Black folks are fine with it. Great church and great to all the people who attend it.  They even have black elders and overseers.

Definitely prayerful of a man who has fought these demons and lost.  Now that this has been bought to light, Satan no longer has power  and  Ted will now be able to stop defiling himself and lying to his family.  Things brought into the light causes Satan to lose power over us.  It is so healing.

  • BRitz · 3 years ago
I'm a hypocrite like you. Relax guys.  Ted was living in hypocrisy but aren't we all in some way?  Those who condemn him for believing "that shit" while simultaneously condemning him for living like they do are just as hypocritical - are they not?  Face it - we all are hypocrites; those of us who condemn sin and those of us who condemn those who condemn sin.  I hope (and from what I've read it seems to be the case) that this falling out will ultimately be a testimony to the grace of God available in Jesus Christ.  This guy can show humility and grace to the world by openly confessing his sin and submissively responding to whatever correction his church organization would impose on him to bring healing and restoration.  Whether or not he ends up pastoring again he can still live the rest of his life as a testimony to Christ's forgiveness and God's ability to restore sinful lives through the power of the Holy Spirit that works in those who believe.

  • joeshmoe · 3 years ago
So, would it be different if he didn't admit and repent? Unfortunately, this type of thing is happening a lot in the church today.  I am actually on staff of a church where a minister was found in immoral activity with 100% proof.  This happened at least 6 months ago.  He at first, slightly admitted, but claimed, "i have told you i was a sinner".  He used this as a scapegoat.  Leaders in the church are held to a higher standard by the Bible.  That doesn't mean they are perfect, and immune, not in the least.  What it does mean is that when this sort of thing happens, you are more than likely done in ministry.

In our case, the minister has now been to counseling and claims he didn't have a problem.  He also has backtracked and almost totally denied most of the hard facts.

Even though Haggard sinned greatly and is a hypocrite, by his letter he is repentant.  That is the important key.  God promises to forvgive when we seek his forgiveness truly and repent.  We must admit our wrong.

In his letter of resignation, he shows, by his words, that he is truly sorry.  Time will tell if that is really true.

Like others have said, I am sick of people judging Christianity by those who are huge hypocrites.  The reality is that all Christians have times of hypocricy.  No one is perfect.  But...that is not a license for hypocricy.  It is obvious by this situation how the sin of one man can literally impact thousands of people.

Please don't judge Christ by his followers.  Look to Him and you will see what it's all about.  And to those who are followers of Christ, don't forget, you are setting an example whether you like it or not.  No room for Charles Barkley's.

  • Joy-filled man · 3 years ago
The good news of God's acceptance True Christianity is not about keeping some rules; it's not about "do this" or "don't do that;" it's not about not screwing up, etiher.  Christianity isn't even about living a good life; we can't do that in our own power.  It's not about what we do, it's about what God did, and what God does!  True Christianity is about being in a living relationship with the living God who loved the world so much that he took the punishment for all of its screwups on himself, so that those who would trust in him are forgviven for absolutely all their screwups, and live in the joy and peace of God's full acceptance, no matter how short they fall of what they should be.  We could never make up for our sin, or our rebellion against our creator; we can never be good enough.  Knowing that, and because God loves us so much, he took care of it.  On the cross, all the sin of those who would trust Jesus was attributed to him (it's all taken care of), and his perfect life is attributed to them, so that now, when God looks to those who love him, he sees Jesus' perfect life!  So we don't have to perform for God to love us, he's loved us already despite how screwed up we are!  Not only that, but he starts to change those who trust him so that they would actually look more and more like Jesus in how they live; he empowers them to live in love and joy and goodness, and he satisfies them with his love and goodness.  That is the good news; that is true Christianity.
