I would've waved Probably you got there too late to see Bush's Transportation Secretary Mary Peters talk to the Transportation Research Board at lunch yesterday about how Bush intends to implement his plan to raise fuel economy standards. I was there and will blog on it Sunday. Hint: the process will look familiar, especially to Dick Cheney.

The tough thing about Washington is you're so close to all this power, yet so far away from any real perspective on it.

It's always good to try to see a House or Senate debate if that's still possible. Otherwise, my suggestion is visit the Smithsonian.

Your tour might begin and end in Old Town Alexandria. Park off King St. walk over and explore. Along the Potomoc are many eateries (and purveyors of adult beverages). Be daring, actually very daring, and enjoy a street dog from one of the cart vendors just off the mall. Ride the rails to various points outside the Beltway. Enjoy everything before thinking of heading into the marble halls of nuttiness. Try to get over to drive around the Pentagon, then drive up the river on the GW Parkway (George Washington).
And most importantly avoid the Beltway during rush hour.

YOu can report back on how the presidential campaign is going -- I saw him shaking his head vehemently on TV during the SOTUS last night, whenever Bush said 'immigration'...

WWII, Vietnam, Jefferson, & Lincoln Memorials ... are must see for first trips. If you have (a lot) more time Smithsonian and National Air & Space museums are always high on my list for places to visit.

As for what to cover and who to talk to, I'm thinking Ken Salazar. Seems to me that there has been shift in his stands / rhetoric since the 2006 elections. Does he now feel free to be less Republican-lite?
