The Colorado Independent: Miraculous Scores Involve Caring, Not Magic

The moral of the story to teachers... The secret to raising CSAP scores is CARING enough.  Obviously, if you are in a failing school, then you don't care enough about your students.  Of course the ability to rewrite a ridiculous curriculum at all is rare and in most districts you're risking your job if administrators find out.  Only a young teacher, in this case one that hasn't even gotten her teaching certificate, can afford to try and really teach students rather than fit into the mandated system.

So, the verdict to other teachers who are struggling to get their students ready for a deeply flawed test within a rigid system of preparation and test-taking, you just need to care more and it will all work out.

Read Carefully...... This message is in response to stealthisbook's response to the article above:

My student is in Denver Public Schools and I have to say that any parent would want their child in a classroom where a teacher cares and tweaks "lessons" based on the needs of the students.  As it said in the article, "This lesson is ridiculous."  The article makes no mention to changing or rewriting (as you stated) the curriculum and if you are an educator it seems as if you are frustrated at not having the same success.  Why not learn from the successes of other teachers rather than making excuses at why you don't have the same success.
