  I read online that the US EPA weakened its own new lead rule after the White House objected.
  
  After the White House intervened, the Environmental Protection Agency last week weakened a rule on airborne lead standards at the last minute so that fewer known polluters would have their emissions monitored....A lead battery recycler objected to the U.S. EPA's rule.
  
  Airborne lead can be inhaled, but the main way people are exposed is when they ingest it from contaminated soil - for example, when children play in a contaminated area and put dirty hands to their mouths....Lead in the air was greatly reduced three decades ago when the government ordered it removed from gasoline, but it is still emitted by lead smelters, cement plants and steel mills.
  
  Scientific studies have found that lead is dangerous at much lower levels in the human body than previously thought. The studies show that children's nervous systems are especially vulnerable, and that lead exposure can result in IQ loss and damage to many internal systems.

  Regarding the sham lead rule put out by the Bush Administration, which overturned their own scientists at the U.S. EPA: The Natural Resources Defense Council, which pressed for new, stronger regulations, used the US EPA's 2002 data to locate large sources of the toxic heavy metal, lead, which is released into the air in cities and states.
  
  In Colorado, there are three company which release significant brain damaging lead into the environment via toxic air emissions: In Adams County, Colorado: SERCK SVCS DBA DENVER RADIATOR & S DENVER released (2002 data): lead compounds, 0.569999993 pounds;
  
  In Pueblo city and county, Colorado: Pueblo County PUBLIC SERVICE Company, COMANCHE Plant:, 2.3 M, Lead Compounds: 0.603855 pounds;
  
  And, also in Pueblo city and county, Colorado: CF&I STEEL L P, DBA ROCKY MTN STEEL. Lead Compounds, 0.547700004 pounds

  Not only has this administration not funded No Child Left Behind, but they apparently put a child's brain down on the list to be protected. And instead protect those corporations who poison for profit...in my opinion.
  
  Please vote for candidates for the Presidency who support regulations to protect public health and the environment and not more of the same.
