John Andrews’ strange, clueless ‘Coloradan of the Year’ column
Too much drinking and not enough thinking in our society. If men were honest with their wives about their feelings, rather then using alcohol as a means of stomaching the frustration that comes of living with a women who drives you up the wall, then maybe there wouldn't be a need for institutionalized abuse or torture.
I think the more we talk about the role that alcohol plays in all this the more people will start behaving like human beings, and we need to provide for such men an alternative to going along to get along, other then living in the street without any dignity. We can have women hiding away in their feelings of love, their drug of denial, and we can have men hiding away in alcohol, but we don't want to force those two into the same house because it's going to create a ton of conflict and toxic emotional wastes with the rest of us sort of caught in the middle or in some cases a cage.
