Rather Speaker Hastert and others engaged in a political damage control effort.  It now appears that they also conspired to cover-up the incident by failing to notify the other members of the House Page Board.  &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;Nowhere in the Republican leaderships' actions was the safety of the pages a consideration.
