In July 2004, 62-year-old Rep. Brian Blundell of Kaanapali, Maui was arrested late at night in a Waikiki park men's room and charged with misdemeanor sexual assault for attempting to fondle a male undercover police officer. He pleaded no contest, and subsequently defeated for re-election.
In October 2004, 61-year-old House GOP Minority Leader Galen Fox was arrested by authorities upon disembarking a flight at Los Angeles International Airport, and charged with felony sexual assault for reaching under a blanket of a sleeping 25-year-old female passenger and grabbing her crotch.
Because the crime occurred in international airspace, and he was arrested at LAX, Fox was charged and booked in federal court in California. Thus, he was able to keep the story out of Hawaii media until well after his 2004 re-election. However, in October 2005 Fox was convicted of misdemeanor sexual asault in a federal court trial, and he immediately resigned his post as state legislator.
If the GOP wishes in the future to defuse the political potency these problems engender, Republicans should cease their unctious and sanctimonious posturing on "family values" as though they hold a monopoly on the subject.

I'm going to need a new print cartridge after this. After hearing of the resignation of Mark Foley, I started thinking about all the other conservative Republicans in recent years who have been caught with their pants down. Now an exhaustive list would be more than any one person could possibly handle. So I decided to limit my search to members of Congress (no congressional aides or local Republicans) who have either admitted to misconduct, or have had allegations substantially corroborated by other sources. I also put a 25-year statute of limitations on my search, so Warren G. Harding is off the hook.
Bear in mind that this list includes only proven cases of sexual misconduct against against Members of Congress. Old-fashioned corruption or, say, getting 2,700 American troops killed in Iraq for no damned good reason, does not make the list. If I've left out any of your favorites, please post them.
