The Colorado Independent: Convention Contention: ‘92

I so remember the Cleveland DNC bid Frankly, many of us thought the committee was completely deluded. Cleveland 1992 was a city still reeling from the bank default and the river catching on fire decades earlier. The city schools narrowly avoided going into state receivership that year too. We have certainly earned our "hard luck" psyche.

Far be it from me to surmise what the committee may have been smokin' if they truly thought the city was a contender to host the convention. ; )

Houston I was in Houston for the 1992 Republican Convention.  Yuk.  Hot, humid, stinky, the Astrodome was a pit.  The guest seating (unless you gave millions to the party) was in the third level in right field.  You might as well have been at home watching on TV.  And the hotel accommodations???  Well, if you ever hear that Denver's rooms are too far away, that's just not a real reason for denying Denver the convention.  The Colorado delegation was banished to some dump in Clear Lake, right across from NASA.  Took 90 minutes to get to the Astrodome.  Our host party was in Oak Park or some Oak Hill or something like that, near downtown.  Much like the Denver Country Club area, old money and lots of it.  But again 90 minutes from our hotel on a stinky bus.  If Denver doesn't get the convention, its the unions stupid and nothing else.
