The Colorado Independent: Bush Aims to Change Labor Landscape Before Leaving

  • tallport · 1 year ago
Good Riddance to Bush 2008 No question, this administration has magnified the core beliefs of what "family values" are NOT. How anybody can vote for somebody like this in the name of religion or "values" proves how far right this country has moved and why we need to take it back.  People who say they stand in the "middle" make me ask, in the middle of what?

Leave companies alone and we'll all prosper Granted, free trade should be "fair trade" with as equal footing as possible.

    Regarding the other above reports:

The problem is the Dems want to mandate, legislate and regulate "evil corporations" and then scream when they seek states offering tax credits or an easing of their costs...or they move major operations offshore.  All to avoid what the Dems caused.  Then we're supposed to spend millions retraining workers displaced by the same burdensome regulation.

Look at one of the first major legislative "victories" the new Dem majority in Colorado passed.  A bill to add thousands of dollars for lawsuit protection that builders have to pay. And add 1000's of dollars to the cost a family pays for a home. No added protections for the family's that weren't there prior, just another boon for litigious lawyers.

Dems are like the idiot that keeps hitting himself in the head and wonders why he has a headache.

Sure ...... Just like we leave the insurance companies alone we have the most expensive, maybe the worst Health Care system in the industrialized world? The idea that the free market will always save us is wishful thinking at least. Has the privatized (Blackwater) war in Iraq been in our national interest?

I do not think "corporations are inherently evil" and cannot say I know anybody who does, but I do think that corporate power is out of balance with the rest of society as far as having undue influence on public policy.

A lot of people think so based on what is happening in this country.

Do a little research... before you go to your next Michael Moore movie. I have many friends in the UK and Canada, and they carry private health insurance to cover them because the government coverage is a death knell. And some of them use that private coverage for U.S. care.  So they are paying twice and that's not cheap either.

And YES regulation of insurance companies is part of the high cost of health care, though it is complex. Just one of the 100's of legislative mandates caps the profits for single distribution and sales of insurance plans. So to make a profit they add several layers of companies, the end result is that instead of being head on competitive, there can be as many as 10 companies all taking a piece of the "premium" cost so by the time it gets to a company or individual policy holder, the cost is higher.  NOT to mention mandatory care for legal and illegal uninsured that hospitals have to bear.  So again, the government drives up costs, then mandates coverage of illegals and then screams about the cost of healthcare...you just can't win this one.

Regarding blackwater, I wasn't there so can't comment on what happened.  I will say that if I had to go there as a civilian I'd rather have them with me, than not!

In case you didn't know it, "tallport" is a paid union official.
  • tallport · 1 year ago
Wrong Again I am not nor have I ever been a "paid union official", but so what if I was? It seems I have told you that several times Mr. "Truthteller". For the record, I am a labor volunteer and have been for many years. I work full time (and part time) as a drug counselor  Again, regarding our health care system, I maintain that a system that excludes so many people and bankrupts so many others who are "covered" is clearly broken. Further, I did not say other countries had perfect systems, but defending our system because it is ours is the epitome of ignorance in my view.  No offense.
  • Truthteller · 1 year ago
You are a union official... who is paid a government salary to, in part, perform union duties as well as being a drug counselor.  That is ON the record.  If that isn't a "paid union official," then just what is?
  • Truthteller · 1 year ago
Your bio, by the way.... .....is online.

Tim Allport,  is currently Vice President at Local 709, American Federation of Government Employees, at the Federal prison in Jefferson County.  Tim has held elected or appointed position in this local for almost 20 years and has taken an active role in representational duties and union administration. He also serves as a Legislative Coordinator for the prison Council's  North Central Region, serves on the executive board of the Denver Area Labor Federation, active on the Colorado State Democratic Labor Education/Advisory Committee and other community groups.  Tim works full time as a Drug Abuse Treatment Counselor at the prison maintains state certification as an Addictions Counselor.

Sounds like you're pretty involved with the union to me............maybe a BIT more than a "labor volunteer," eh?

  • tallport · 1 year ago
No, it is NOT.... No, it is not.  Get over it.  But again, so what if I was paid by a union?  I would be proud to say so.

So who are you "TruthTeller" It looks like you did a good job taking our attention off of the issues raised by this article - your only option, it seems, because of your weak arguments.

Thanks for the side show!  You are really helping us understand the issues here.

Now how about a bit of your background.

  • Snowy · 1 year ago
I'm not sure what you are talking about. My friends in Canada and the UK love their health care system. They tell me all the time what great health care they get.

When are you going to realize that health care is not the same as health insurance. You better review your Rush tapes to see how to answer to that one.

As far as your Blackwater comment. What does being there have to do with anything. Are you suggesting that only the mercenaries who work for Blackwater can comment on the subject? Very strange thinking...
