A Real Challenger to Udall I wish a real challenger would arise to upseat Mark Udall. I think he has upset many Democratic voters with his support of the Iraq war and his treatment of anti-Iraq War protesters in his office.

I wish there was a viable candidate to vote for besides Mark Udall. These issues may serve to make him weak with independants and swing voters in the coming election.

Unsatisfied.

He doesn't care "Socialized medicine" is just a slogan they mindlessly throw around without knowing what it means. For some reason it causes their adrenal glands to increase their output, and it feels good to them. Related terms having the same effect are "liberal media", "tax and spend", "bleeding heart", "homosexual agenda", "communist conspiracy" etc. It's what passes for conservative thought nowadays.

Far left wing?? I don't believe calling for impeachment or single payer health care are "far left wing" issues at all.

Dividing the party into categories based on relevant opinions on key issues is not helpful to the issues nor the party.

A run by a candidate who takes issue with the voting record of a fellow candidate is the most democratic of pursuits.

I believe one of the biggest problems with the democratic party is the excessive political stratagizing out of fear that overshadows the true issues. This creates dissatisfaction in people who believe in democratic party principles, but have lost faith in the representative politicians.

If it is "far left wing" to not live in fear, and to stand up for what you beleieve in, then I proudly fly with that flock. No democrat should react from fear, and although there are always considerations, doing right by issues and the people is by far more powerful than is being scared of the other party.

Wow, nice.... I must have really touched a nerve or two.

But I didn't ask about the results of any investigation. I asked if she fully supported the conducting of those investigations, the purpose of which is to determine if the allegations made were correct or not. Isn't that the responsible thing to do, in order to keep the government as clean as possible? Or do you two only object to investigations when they're directed at members of one particular political party?

and re: impeachment House leaders tried to stop the impeachment (the dead Henry Hyde iirc) but Tom DeLay pushed on even as polls said Americans didn't want the impeachment and Clinton's approval increased.

And then the Senate didn't convict.

Say What?? As much as I love Mark Udall, I think that the polls show overwhelmingly that people are mad and want the rule of law to apply to everybody. Telling us it's a distraction to impeach a president who is guilty of a crime is ridiculous. If a poor black kid can go to prison for life for 3 ounces of marijuana and nobody complains that his "trial" is a distraction, then we have the right and should be able to do the same thing for the Bush Administration. I don't care if anybody is convicted, I just want the world to know what has gone on so that we can try and figure out how to prevent such things in the future.

I must admit even as a kid, I thought the watergate hearings were fascinating, and what better way to get people involved in the political process but to bring in some drama??

Shining a light on darkness is the best way to preserve our democracy. Otherwise, every administration will push farther and farther until we can't trust anybody.

on the other hand .

a pro forma challenge and an actual primary contest,

even if it's not close,

gives both candidates the opportunity to get more press,

either through debates,

or through challenges and responses made through the media.

It's free publicity.

It serves the community.

And since the challenge sounds amicable,

it won't hurt the eventual winner.
