The Colorado Independent: ‘Demand the Debate’ Web site petition launched

Can't you handle the heat, McCain?
  • Pat Gould · 1 year ago
Stop these silly maneuvers and get on with the debate!
If McCain is so attached to Washington, why has he only voted on Senate bills ONCE since April? I think he's stalling because the polls are leaning so much to Obama.
  • Christopher Derhammer Hill · 1 year ago
Given the urgency of the current situation, I feel it is more important than ever that Obama and McCain are provided an opportunity to demonstrate their views and concerns to the American people. This is no time for either candidate to shy away from their responsibility to engage in reasoned political discourse before our Nation.

In fact, given the demands on the president's time day in and day out, it is reasonable to suggest than any candidate for this role MUST be able to balance the demands of the debates and the current legislative duties in Washington.
  • Rosemarie McMichael · 1 year ago
Paraphrasing Senator Obama: "Presidents must be able to do more than one thing at a time." Apparently Senator cannot both campaign and vote in the Senate at the same time since he hasn't shown up for a vote since April 8.

The debate must go one as scheduled.
  • Tracie Hunt · 1 year ago
This country needs to hear from the candidates now!
  • abstractartgirl · 1 year ago
Mr. McCain, do the honorable thing and put my country, your country, ALL OF OUR (fellow citizens) COUNTRY first. Resign from the running. Then, at long last, your statement of being a 'maverick' would actually be true AND you would finally have some substance backing up that sadly maligned word.

However, since you're probably scrambling as I write, trying to figure out what your next blurb will be, you could at least hold steady to ONE, just one decent commitment and actually show up for the debate?. This time though, could you do America a favor and not ban the press from another embarrassing moment?
Truth, even when embarrassing, still is more courageous and honorable than your fictions.

    With appreciation,
And as a fellow PTSD suffererer,
And as someone who would like to see America be great again,
And as a real person, not a ghostwriter plant,

    A Independent and registered voter

ps... I must amend the above; you have said a few good things, it's just that Obama said them first and actually lives it all besides. I am greatly looking forward to the debate. On Friday.
  • Andrea Cox · 1 year ago
The debate MUST go on- There is no reason for McCain and Obama to be desparately needed in Washington on a Friday night. If they are needed in Washington between now and then, fine, go there, help as you are needed, but then get themselves back to Mississippi for the debate. It's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned. I see now that McCain is also trying to postpone the VP debate!! Trying to 'reschedule' Friday's debate in place of the VP debate, and then, well, we'll just reschedule the VP debate for some other time. Sounds to me like they think Sarah just ain't ready yet and they are trying to pull a fast one on the American people.
  • Anne · 1 year ago
Trying to back out of the debate is not the act of a true patriot. This is no time to start a childish game of
Chicken. We're on to you, Senator McCain. You've got nuthin' and you're vamping for a Miracle. Except her name is Palin and the strategy is failin'.

Let the Debates begin and the buffalo chips fall where they may!
  • John Heafield · 1 year ago
Postpone only if you have the
VP debate tomorrow in its place
  • Catherine Skoor · 1 year ago
I think McCain is postponing the debate because he's woefully unprepared to handle this crisis and he's flailing.
We need to hear from both of these candidates, ESPECIALLY in this time of what could be the biggest financial crisis our nation has ever faced. I want to see leadership qualities in both of these men and I'm furious that McCain seems afraid to face the country with this problem the Bush Administration has left on our doorsteps.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
McCain I thought you were a man of honor. It shows that you aren't pushing country first but campaign first. It will cost the college thousands of dollars if you do not show up. You are looking unprofessional by doing this to the supporters of both campaigns.
  • Michael Lewis · 1 year ago
Frankly if this debate is canceled all it will indicate is that McCain is unable to focus on a multitude of problems at the same time, something that a President MUST be able to do.
  • Dave · 1 year ago
Senator McCain, if you have anything valid, intelligent and inspiring to tell the American people, Friday's your chance. If not, well, no surprise there.
  • fed up with the BS · 1 year ago
Don't be a freakin wus, McCain. You are gonna have to face Obama sooner or later, so stop trying to postpone the inevitable.

Face your fears, and be a man!!

Unamerican to call it off! Stand up and be counted. Have them as planned.
  • Barbara · 1 year ago
It's time for McCain to stop playing his games and get serious about this election! YES, the debates need to go on ~ it's time for him to face his opponent and respond in kind to the questions America has with how they will deal with foreign policy, national security, and economic issues. He hasn't seen any importance to adding his vote to any other issues over the past months ~ suddenly we can't do without his input into the bailout plan??? PUH-LEAZE!
  • Rdes · 1 year ago
This is not the time to run away from your responsibilities to the American people, Senator McCain.
I want a President who will stand tall in times of crisis, not hide and be afraid to face the people he purports to want to represent and lead.
Shame on you, Senator McCain. You're taking the country down the wrong road, yet again.

When John MCCain first selected Sarah Palin; I blogged that they were going to provide a lot of material for SNL, THE LATE NIGHT COMEDIANS, AND ALL OTHER POLITICAL COMMENTATORS AND PUNDITS ALIKE. I never expected things to rise...or sink to this level. I keep telling my husband and son that it feels like our entire country is living out a "Saturday Night Live" sketch. You see: I was one of the many, many people who stayed up all night doing research on Gov. Sarah Palin via online ALASKA NEWSPAPERS. They began the questions of Gov. Palin's "odd" behavior. Life is truly stranger than fiction. NO ONE COULD WRITE THIS.

We need to see the next chapter. We need to start the debates now. We need to "SEE" the two Senators side-by-side. Maybe then...all of those who are drinking the Republican Kool-Aid will come out of their drunken stupor; and can crawl out of the "RABBIT HOLE...LOOKING GLASS" (REF: ALICE IN WONDERLAND). Finally, they can join the rest of us in the WORLD - SOBER AND LUCID.

now is the perfect time to stand up and be the leader that America needs. Get your butt to the debate (McCain) and take a stand. Stalling is just that...stalling.

If President will McCain delay relations with foreign nations?

You can not delay the trials and tribulations of life; esp. if you are President of the USA.
  • Sue Keller · 1 year ago
I demand that McCain stepup and debate Obama on Friday, let us hear for ourselves if the Mavrick still has it.

    Dear John and Sarah,

This is your beloved buddy in Colorado (and part-time Sterling, AK) Dave.

I just wrote each of you a check for $700,000,000,000 and am sending it to you via email. I have been assured by PP it will clear instantly. Therefore, no need to stay in WDC as I PERSONALLY HAVE SOLVED THE LATEST FINANCIAL PROBLEM.

Therefore, please hop in one of your 13 vehicles and motor down to Mississippi.

    XoXo,

    Dave

PS: Also included a GAS CARD to cover those costs.

    Ok!
    Lets think about this?
Do you really think when push comes to shove the American people will vote for McBush?
McCain is the one who supported the GOP’s trickledown economy.
McCain is the man who voted to send our bravest to die looking for weapons of mass destruction that did not exist.
McCain is the man who does not know that 9-11 was caused by Osama Bin Laden not Sedam Hussein.
McCain is the man who does not know if the Sunnis or Sheits are our enemies!
McCain is the man who put our government on the China, Saudi Arabia credit card.
McCain is the man has adopted virtually the entire Bush agenda, often reversing long held positions and compromising supposed core principles. From Iraq, tax cuts for the wealthy, broken promises on the deficit to opposition to SCHIP, tax credits for health care, overturning Roe v. Wade and a right-wing Supreme Court, without question John McCain represents a third Bush term.
    Get real!
I’m a Republican and I’m voting for Obama.
